Keeping you up-to-date on Covenant Hospital, Mombin Crochu, Haiti |
|
|
Greetings In Our Lord Jesus Christ to all of you who have been supporters of Covenant Hospital in Mombin Crochu, Haiti. As 2007 draws to a close, we give thanks for your prayers and continued interest for the healing mission of Covenant Hospital among Haiti’s rural poor. As we work together we can reflect on some successes and progress during the past year. Covenant Hospital continues to serve the needs of the sick and injured in the Mombin Crochu region. The Haitian medical and nursing staff works under the immediate direction of the MSPP, the Haitian Ministry of Health, and maintains both out-patient clinical care and in-patient services for the more severely ill. The Community Health Program has strengthened its outreach in preventive medicine and health education and is now reaching even more of the remote villages of the region. |

2007 MISSIONS
Dr. Sylvia Campbell and the medical/surgical care team from Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church visited Covenant Hospital in April and again in October of this year, and performed needed surgeries including dealing successfully with several emergency operations. This devoted hands-on witness to the love and grace of Jesus Christ serves as a model for medical teams which are needed to participate in the ongoing work of the hospital. Al Atz and workers from Orchard Park Presbyterian Church visited Mombin Crochu to continue faithful work on the building and the electrical and water systems so vital to the operations of the hospital and the guesthouse. They also performed needed repairs and maintenance on the vehicles, without which transportation of supplies and personnel would be impossible in this remote mountainous district. |
PLANS FOR 2008
In mid-January of 2008, a team of 5 representing the Covenant Hospital Network and Medical Benevolence Foundation will journey to Mombin Crochu to analyze needs and programs of the mission, and participate in discussions with MSPP regarding how resources which congregations so liberally and faithfully give for Covenant Hospital may most effectively be utilized. A report of that trip and any recommendations will be shared with you.
While there has been progress during the past year, the goals and needs of the mission at Covenant Hospital continue to challenge the will and the faithfulness of all of us as Christ’s witnesses among the people of rural Haiti. Together, we persist in treating disease among the poor and needy, for whom Covenant Hospital is the only resource for care. Together, we strive to help the Haitian people learn more about maintaining their health and assist them to build for themselves systems for effective healthcare. |

Blessings for a Joyous Christmas season. Please continue to pray and to give generously in 2008 for the work of Covenant Hospital. Let us do so in the name and faithfulness of the Great Healer and Lord of all our lives and resources, Jesus Christ. |
