Medication
PLEASE NOTE:
THE HAITIAN GOVERNMENT IS VERY MUCH AGAINST RECEIVING EXPIRED DRUGS; ALL MEDICINES MUST HAVE CURRENT DATES, NOT LESS THAN SIX MONTHS TO EXPIRATION.

The ideal way for the hospital to receive medications is in bulk containers of 100, 200, 500, and 1000 tablets. Generics are preferred and cheaper to buy; Small sample packages of brand drugs are difficult to use and confusing for the staff who are not familiar with all the different names. Brand names of antibiotics OK as in list.
- Amoxicillin -- 125 mg. susp; tabs 250 & 500 mg. Always need amox
- Ampicillin Injectable – 500 mg.
- Cimetidine, Ranitidine, other H2 blockers
- Omeprazole, pantopraxole, and other stomach medicines
- Erythromycin -- Suspension and tablets
- Bactrim & Septra -- sold generically as Co-trimoxazole; Susp & tabs
- Ferrous Sulfate tabs
- Vitamins -- Multivitamins, especially Pre-natal vitamins
- Ophthalmic antibiotic solutions – ex. Neomycin, Gentamycin; small bottles
- Otic antibiotic suspensions for ear infections
- Antacid tablets and suspensions
- Ibuprofen, 400 mg tabs; Use lots of it !!
- Albendazole and Mebendazole tablets and liquid
- Methyldopa, 250 mg tabs
- Cough medicine with decongestant -- ex. Sudafed cough prep, Robitussin DM or AC,
- Phenergan VC; others
- Propranolol, 40 mg tabs
- Atenolol, 50 mg tabs
- Ciprofloxacin, 500 mg; Levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gatifloxicin tabs
- Cephalosporin antibiotics -- Keflex, others; Injectable cephalosporins (Rocefin)
- Epinephrine, 1mg/ml ampuls – need box of 12 or 20
- Lidocaine, 1% - multi-dose vials
- Antihistamine-decongestants -- tabs & liquid; ex benadryl, Allegra-D, Claritin-D, etc
- Chloramphenicol, 250 mg tabs; 1.0 gram vials; used for typhoid
- Gentamycin Injectable -- Use lots of it!
- Loperamide, 2 mg tabs
- Metronidazole, 250 mg tabs and liquid
- Digoxin, 0.125 mg tabs
- Furosemide, 40 mg tabs
- Furosemide Injectable
- Captopril, 25 mg; Other medicines in this class are also desireable
- Hydrochlorthiazide, 25 & 50 mg
- Metoclopramide, 10 mg tabs and 5 mg. inj.
- Albuterol tabs: Inhalers are not readily available and very expensive here
- Albuterol unit dose for nebulizer; Hospital has a nebulizer – just need med
- Theophylline tabs, 200 mg
- PPD Intermediate Strength – for TB testing
- Silver Sulfadiazine Cream (Silvadene) – large jars
- Anti-fungal creams -- miconazole, clotrimazole
- Laxative tablets – bisacodyl, senna, docusate
- Spironolactone tabs, 25 mg
- Triamcinolone Cream
- Prednisone tabs, 5 mg or 10 mg
- Phenobarbital -- 15 or 30 mg
- Phenytoin, 100 mg, 15 mg. tabs
- Promethazine – tabs and injection
- Potassium chloride powder -- individual packets
