Teams Ministry at Covenant Hospital – June 2007

Poverty, hunger, despair and tragedy are intertwined in Haiti, a country that is often forgotten by the rest of the world.

Despite all of the turmoil within the country, people worship and care about living life. They are wonderful people, placed in situations that they have no control over, yet which they are destined to be a part of.

Their deep and sincere faith in God is amazing to witness in the face of the difficult circumstances.

Covenant Hospital in Mombin Crochu was established in the 1990’s in conjunction with the Medical Benevolence Foundation and the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. Over 50,000 people live in the mountains surrounding Mombin Crochu. There is no other hope for medical care.

In early September, Dr.Sylvia Campbell, surgeon and former Medical Benevolence Foundation trustee went to Mombin Crochu, Haiti on a medical mission trip.

Dr. Campbell and her team had not been able to go to Haiti in over 3 years to do what they do best – provide medical care in His name to people in need. In doing so the medical team demonstrated the love of Jesus Christ through their healing hands.
Haiti continues to be in turmoil. Covenant Hospital continues to struggle to make ends meet each day.Under new leadership, and support from the Medical Benevolence Foundation they will continue to provide health care for the poor in this region.

Look for more information on the trip taken by Dr. Campbell and the members of the Palma Ceia PC in the October edition of the MBF Mission Connection.

Until this trip political unrest prevented medical teams from safely going to Haiti to provide the much needed medical care to this impoverished region. The medical mission group from Palma Ceia Presbyterian church in Tampa, Florida was the first medical group to serve Covenant Hospital in over two years.

While the medical team was there they:

Performed 35 surgical procedures
Treated 148 patients
Distributed 100 eyeglasses.
